The White Wires - "I Remember You" Live!

I was able to catch The White Wires play at Fever Fest this Saturday.
It was a fun outdoor show in a tent in a parking lot.
They played a new song called "I Remember You" and the recording I made is a bit rough but the song is insanely catchy nonetheless. Can't wait for them to put out another record!

Upcoming Shows!

Here are a couple shows happening in the next couple of days. We aren't putting these shows on but we want to spread the word!

Tonight!

"Come fucking party with friends, an amazing band from Montreal, and some of your Ottawa favorites. I'm excited to play with some of MY favourite bands, and partying in a basement is the fucking cherry on top.

The basement is 452 Gladstone.

Respect the space or we won't be doing shows there again. The cover is PWYC with a suggested donation of $5. Don't have $5? Scrounge up something and we'll still thank you for it. Bring your friends. Show them some good bands. Make it a night to remember. Kick off the summer right!

I'm posting the tentative doors for 7 PM, please check back and see if this changes. I will make announcements as well.

Laureate (Montreal)

Combing some melodic post-hardcore/emo & pop punk are Montreal's Laureate. Reminiscent of their influences ranging from Samiam & Seaweed to Saves the Day & Jawbreaker. They have notable vocal hooks which will sooth any pop sweet tooth and fans of early 2000 'emo rock' circa Brandston, JEW, TBS, etc. Get their demo free on their bandcamp and see for yourself.

Dead Weights

Playing catchy punk rock with themes of sardonic discontent for your peers, government towns, life, cops, and politics. Sounding sometimes reminiscent of Jawbreaker, Leatherface, Dillinger Four, and other bands that you should probably listen to instead. Features ex and current members of CATCH OF THE DAY, WOOKA TRIBE, I REFUSE, and JON CREEDEN.

The debut 7" EP (Sick of Deja Vu) is currently being mastered and there may be updates before this show:

Benevenstanciano

This band is too fucking good. Think of all the reasons you like punk rock, basement shows, and hanging out with good friends. This is basically what I think of when I casually drift off into daydreams about how fucking awesome this band is on a daily basis. Comprised of ex members of Ottawa legends TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM and CRITICAL CONVICTIONS is a solid crew of guys playing fast, rowdy, and catchy punk rock the way it was meant to be played. Think of Dillinger Four and then think of every reason you've ever liked NO IDEA RECORDS.

Motivator

A recent addition to Ottawa punk bills, but no strangers to our scene, are Motivator. Members from past and present groups Alaskan, Boar, Between the Broken, The Wishlist, Open Arms, etc. etc. You get the point. Listen to their recordings on bandcamp. They graciously posted lyrics on their tumblr so you can sing a long. You'll want to. They remind me of something between American Nightmare, Another Breath, MLIW, with a touch of Kid Dynamite. Your new favourite local hardcore band. They recently put out a cassette tape and probably have merch. Thank me later.

JEFF the Brotherhood tomorrow night!

Don't forget!!!!

Ottawa Explosion presents...

Wednesday June 22nd!

Jeff The Brotherhood (Nashville, TN)
http://jeffbrotherhood.blogspot.com/

Jake and Jamin Orrall, aka JEFF The Brotherhood, are seen by many to be latter-day pioneers of the Nashville rock scene, but they see themselves as brothers who can't remember not playing music together for fun. Their family-owned, vinyl-centered record label, Infinity Cat Recordings, has been a pillar of support for Nashville bands since 2002 (with 60 releases to date) and was named "Nashville's Best Record Label 2010" by the Nashville Scene. But their first love has always been the Brotherhood known as JEFF.
Known for their relentless touring and their "we'll play anywhere" mentality, they have built a reputation for stripping rock music down to it's basics, and delivering mind-bending live shows with Jamin's three drums and three cymbals and Jake's three-string guitar and ferocious vocals. JEFF The Brotherhood's work ethic practically defines D.I.Y., from their simple but compelling videos to their self-produced and critically acclaimed albums, EP's and singles.

Uncle Bad Touch (Montreal, QC)
http://www.unclebadtouchband.com/

Mikey from Priestess with his girlfriend, Kathryn, and their drummer-friend, Shawn spent two weeks in the summer jamming and recording in Mikey's kitchen. As they finished each song, they put them up on myspace, facebook and posted to Stillepost. There was an amazing reaction to their, fuzzy, catchy, hooky tunes recorded on Garageband. They spent the rest of the summer playing sweaty loft parties and bbqs and are now poised to be one of the new breakout bands from Montreal this coming year. Their super lo-fi, fun, fuzzy, garagy sound and loveable live show is infectious. Mikey and Kathryn are such a cool, loveable couple to see up front and center. Already darlings of the Montreal scene, they're now getting attention from usa labels, bloggers, press,etc..

Peach Kelli Pop (Ottawa, ON
http://www.myspace.com/alliehanlon

Peach Kelli Pop is the solo project by White Wires drummer Allie Hanlon, who released her debut self-titled LP of lo-fi summertime lovey-dovey pop jams last year on Going Gaga Records (and now reissued by Infinity Cat). Maybe the world up and decided that they weren’t too cool for fun pop songs after all. Whatever it is, if this development keeps bringing us bands like Peach Kelli Pop, we should all be grateful.

Doors at 9 pm.
$8.

Ottawa Explosion: Thursday Videos!

Here's a couple of videos from the first night of Ottawa Explosion.

Thanks!

A huge THANKS to everyone who came out to the shows! We really appreciate everyone coming out early to catch the opening bands and sticking around to catch every band. This weekend was the absolute best and We look forward to having another huge party next year.

A huge THANKS to all the bands who played. Most of the bands who played this weekend were local bands and they were ALL amazing. It is absolutely insane how great bands in this city are and we are very lucky to have them. The styles and genres differed widely but the quality never wavered. Mind blowing. Thanks to the out of town bands for traveling all the way here and killing it!

A huge THANKS to everyone who helped out behind the scenes, doing doors, selling merch, carrying/driving gear, etc. We couldn't have done it without you.

A huge THANKS to Yogi, Adam & co. (Babylon), Chris & co. (Mavericks), Darrin & co. (Vertigo), John & co. (Birdman) and Bill & co. (House) for providing spaces for us to play in. Mandi (Auntie Loo's) for cupcakes and treats and Yogi's buddies for BBQ-ing. Thanks for keeping me alive.

The weekend is over but there are always great things happening in this city. We can always be having this much fun. You can hear about the shows we're doing by checking out this site or by "like"-ing our Facebook page.

I talk WAY too much so I'll end it here!

THANKS!

Fuckin Scam Records/New Kamalas 7"

Eric Neurotic from Fear Of Lipstick has decided to turn Fucking Scam Records into a fledgling label.
Yeah so I decided to start a record label/distro. Had put out a couple of Fear of Lipstick releases in the past on it, but I decided to put out other bands on it as well. The new Kamalas 7" to start. It's up on the site for free download right now and the actual vinyl release will be out in time for their upcoming trip to the Ottawa Explosion in June and available here in Moncton at the release show with the Beaten Hearts on July 3rd at the PlanB. So enjoy the free download, buy a 7" when you can, and check out past releases for free downloads as well. The distro should be up in the swing of things in the next month...
Up next: 12" comp of Moncton punk/garage bands.

You can download the new Kamalas 7" HERE and make sure to pick it up when they play at Cafe Dekcuf on the Friday night of Ottawa Explosion.
